Painting Inspiration:
Bull & Whale, the zoomorphic representations of Land and sea. The animals are said to have been chosen both for the obvious - the bull for agriculture and the whale as the king of the ocean. However, it is also said that when the first stories of the cosmos were narrated, the constellations depicting fish (Pisces) and the bull (Taurus) were visible in the sky.

As I created this series of paintings, I imagine the other marvellous creatures with profound meanings. I painted Sobek, to acknowledge the importance of the crocoilde in the Earth's story. I have also depicted Leo in his multiple forms - as the sun, and here as a lion in conversation with the bull. Painted after traditional manuscripts in which the stories originate, I have used semi-precious stones such as malachite and natural pigments on Nepalese paper to retell this intriguing tale.
