A five-session Indian miniature painting course that will teach you how to paint a bird using Indian miniature painting techniques.

Referencing existing Indian miniature paintings and taking inspiration from them, learn to paint a Partridge using the highly refined techniques of the Indian Masters. 

Expect to learn and practice using watercolours and gouache. Learn to render and achieve fine feathery and soft detailing. Learn about Indian miniature painting in the process.

Does my access expire?

You will have access to all course content for as long as the course exists on the website. 

A month notice will be given prior to the course being removed.

Is this suitable for beginners?

Beginners will be able to achieve a good result following the completion of this course. However, if you are unsure of your skill level, or feeling a little nervous, try your hand at one of our Introductory classes.

Breakdown of Week & Recommended Materials:

 Monday:

Paper preparation (wasli, size and burnish)

Access to a stove/hot plate highly recommended.

Materials recommended for this class: 
- Hob, 
- Saucepan,
-Indian Khariya (Pure Kanolin powder or cosmetic grade zinc can  
  be used)
- Burnisher (I'd recommend this burnisher or this burnisher.
  Cowrie Shell

- Regular wheat flour (250g)
- Clean glass jar
- 2 large (UK A2) sheets of natural Hemp or Jute, paper. 
- Hairdyer
- 2 x printed image of partridge in A4 (supplied before class)
- Red earth pigment, UK linked here, US here.
- cleaning cloth or kitchen towel.
- Masking tape linked here.

Tuesday:

Prepare Khariya (Zinc powder) and learn to draw your partridge.

- Glass, granite marble (smooth slab)
